As June comes to an end and coincides with the completion of Term 2

It is truly inspiring to look back and reflect on the moments shared and the impact Science Alive has had throughout communities in Canterbury. Funding through the TAIT foundation has enabled Outreach to cast a wide educational net. The Science Alive van traveled over 400 kilometers to 9 different schools in June alone.

The first week of June

Found the Outreach team visiting Tai Tapu school for solar system exploration with the dome. Then it was off to Te Kāpehu for our Big Reactions programme and some exploration of the explosive nature of scientific reactions. We closed the week on a trip north to Oxford School with the dome exploring and discussing the solar system.

Week 2

The Outreach team visited four different schools. It truly is amazing to see the variety of interests, skills, and passion within each school and class. We began the week at Amberley, then on to Wharenui the next day. Visits to Southbrook and Te Kura o te Tauawa Halswell School closed out the rest of the week.

Week 3

Took us back to Tai Tapu for a second day of dome and space exploration. We then visited Casebrook Intermediate with the dome for two consecutive days of celestial travel and exploration. Dome bookings of multiple days provide many learning benefits and even include a discount.

Week 4

Provided an opportunity to return to Te Kura o te Tauawa Halswell for two more days. Then the team enjoyed a few days of collaborative learning and development at the SCANZ conference held right here in Christchurch.

Closing out the month, we visited Cheviot schools for a big day of explosive reactions. The learning didn’t stop as the month of June closed with three more school visits remaining in the week, but we’ll talk about that in next month's wrap up.

Term 2 has been a whirlwind

June served as a culmination of the learning possible through the collaborative efforts of Science Alive, schools throughout Canterbury, and the TAIT foundation. With over 2,000 students engaged in STEM learning opportunities, it has been wonderful to see and experience so many magical learning moments.
