Meet the Team - Administration and Marketing

Carolynn (Caro) is our Business Administrator, instantly recognisable by her pink walking stick. She supports the team by keeping systems running smoothly, solving our problems and helping the team stay organised.

Caro is passionate about practical learning and making complex things simpler. Outside of work, you’ll usually find her in gumboots, at home in the country, with her husband and a few animals, planning her next adventure!

That science is only for “science people.” Curiosity matters just as much as equations.

Bananas are berries (but strawberries aren’t), and wombat poo is cube shaped. Science is full of surprises and it’s often delightfully weird.

When in doubt, go without.

Planning future travels and learning something new — ideally with a good cup of coffee (or a spiced rum).

Jax is a mother of two and loves watching their curiosity and fascination in the world around them - and all the questions that come along with this! Science Alive allows her to foster this curiosity (and hopefully answer a few more questions) as well as the chance to achieve this for other New Zealand children.

When she is not at work, you’ll likely find her enjoying time with her kids, husband and dogs - perhaps with a gin in hand!

Ready to be amazed? I’m weirdly, impressively good at folding a fitted sheet. Not “roll it into a sad laundry ball” good — I mean crisp, neat, looks-like-a-hotel good.

I spent three months in Churchill working at a polar bear lodge, and while other people were out spotting bears, I was inside mastering the true Arctic survival skill: defeating elastic corners. Some people leave the Arctic with epic wildlife stories (I did actually have these too). I left with elite linen-folding abilities.

“This too will pass” A sentiment I was taught when I was younger to enjoy the good times and live in the moment as they don’t last forever. But also a comforting reminder when things aren’t going well that this too will pass.

I am also a truffle farmer with a team of dogs that I have trained to locate truffles underground.

I have always loved animals so I wanted to be a vet or a farmer. I also went through a stage of wanting to be a landscape architect and had a scrapbook of gardens I liked with notes alongside.
