Helping Students To Explore The Wonder Of Science, Innovation And Technology Online, Like Never Before.

Science Alive have developed this Online learning platform to reach out to kids and show them what can be possible through STEM subjects.

We believe that the youth today need to be prepared for a different future of jobs and work, and that the skill sets that are needed involve innovation and problem solving. These lessons aim to not just teach children about these skills but help them realise that they have these abilities within them. We hope to empower children to design their own futures and realise just how much potential they have when looking outside the box- these are lessons of hope, motivation and action through educational pathways, no matter your starting point. This is a resource for all.

Science Alive Mātauranga is a unique partnership between Science Alive Charitable Trust and Education Perfect. Together, under the same vision, content is being developed that aims to inspire young learners to develop 21st century skills that will equip them for the jobs of the future.

What content is available?

Throughout the year, we will be releasing content that aligns with the Nature of Science framework of the New Zealand Curriculum. These strands include:

  • The Living World
  • Planet Earth and Beyond
  • The Physical World
  • The Material World

You can access these resources right now using your Teacher account here. Modules are being developed for Level 4 learners with strong relevance from Level 3.

This unique science resource has been specifically designed to enhance cross curricular learning by seamlessly incorporating literacy, numeracy & kaupapa Māori throughout each lesson while also giving kaiako the ability to assess the learning material covered. These akoranga (lessons) can then be further built upon during classroom discussions and learning sessions.

Why is it called Science Alive Mātauranga?

Science Alive Charitable Trust and Education Perfect share a joint vision of creating a free resource powered by EP for all tamariki and kura in Aotearoa. This resource focuses on Science, Innovation and Technology while also organically threading Te Reo Māori and Mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge, views, and perspectives) throughout each lesson and the associated activities.

Māori culture recognises that every thing is connected and this is true in scientific learning as well.  He waka eke noa! - We are all in this together! As a tribute to the generous contribution from the Science Alive Charitable Trust, that made this kaupapa possible, and the incorporation of Mātauranga Māori within our learning material, the name ‘Science Alive Mātauranga’ was born.

"My students are really engaged in our fantastic Cross-curricular Unit Antarctic
Adventures! Many of them are choosing to learn in their own time too! An amazing
resource that every teacher should have access too"

Amy Lee Trainor

St Joseph's Pleasant Point

“I just want to let you know that I have been ploughing along with the Antarctic unit
and my kids LOVE it!!! I feel like the worst teacher as they just want to be left alone to do each section....my class has never been so focused and quiet!!”

Helen Kang

Rotorua Intermediate School

“It really is an easy way to integrate our duty to uphold the Treaty of Waitangi in an
authentic and engaging way for the students. Not only can you adapt the resources available to match your learning style. It can also match the pace of their learners and suit the level of depth each student needs. It can be so much more than 'Assign and Work through' type of work and students can really see the value in learning.”
