Solve It
In this immersive forensic science workshop, participants step into the role of Crime Scene Investigators, using scientific thinking to solve a mystery through evidence, observation, and analysis.
Working like real scientists, they collect, preserve, test, and interpret physical evidence — learning that conclusions are built on the weight and quality of evidence, not guesses.
Designed to be flexible and adaptable, this workshop can be scaled for different age groups, learning goals, and levels of complexity, making it suitable for a wide range of venues and learning contexts.
Scenarios can be easily modified — from a simple non-violent mystery to a more complex investigation — and aligned with curriculum links, inquiry learning, or problem-solving outcomes.
Age: 7+
Time: 1.5 hours
Requirements:
What they’ll do:
- Observe and document a staged crime scene using real forensic-style tools
- Collect, label, and preserve evidence while avoiding contamination
- Analyse evidence through hands-on lab activities (Fingerprint, simulated blood typing, fibre analysis and soil analysis)
- Record observations and data in a Crime Scene Investigator notebook
- Develop hypotheses and revise them as new evidence emerges
- Present and defend conclusions based on scientific evidence and reasoning
