Find science information on all the magnets topics that Science Alive covers. This includes education classes, resources we hire, exhibit examples, interesting magnets facts, fun activities, experiments, useful links and general magnets information.

Magnets education classes: See our education section for more

Mighty Magnets - Years 1-3

Feel the force of magnets and explore the ways that magnets can be used.
Key Concepts: the characteristics of magnets, attracting, repelling, magnetic fields and magnets in everyday life.

Exhibit examples: See our exhibitions page for more

Magnetic spring - Four or more magnets are stacked in a Perspex tube with their magnetic poles facing each other. By pushing down on them a visitor can experience the strength of the magnetic forces involved.

Flashing Pendulum - Pull the pendulum toward you and let go. At the end of the pendulum is a coil of copper wire and every time this passes by the magnet a light on the pendulum's arm flashes.

Large Magnet - Pass different metals between the poles of a very powerful magnet and see which ones are affected.

Science kits and equipment: See our resources section for more

Compass Kit, Magnet Kit.

Interactive Magnets game:

Learn about the characteristics of magnets as you experiment with magnets and springs in this fun interactive game.
