Science Alive! Robotics

Education Programmes

Science Alive! offers 2 educational robotics classes, Robotics 1 & Robotics 2. Students learn fundamentals of robotics as well learning to build and program using Lego Mindstorms.

RoboCup Junior New Zealand

Science Alive! is proud to be involved with RoboCup Junior New Zealand in Christchurch.RoboCup Junior is a national robotics competition open to school students. It is a unique event that excites and motivates students.

Canterbury Computers in Education Society Robotics Competition

CCES Robotics Competition

In 2007 and 2008 Science Alive! was involved in organising and judging the robotics section at the Canterbury Computers in Education Society (CCES) competition. Our challenges test students building and programming skills.

AIBO

Chip is Science Alive's robotic dog. He lives in the education offices and is regularly used by the education staff for class demonstrations. He likes to dance, play with his toys, read your horoscope and much much more. Chip is also very smart, he can understand voices, recognize faces and even take photos!

PARO

Paro is a very special robotic seal that also lives in Science Alive's Interactive Area. She imitates many of the characteristics of a real seal pup, making authentic seal noises, squirming around and reacting to touch & sound. Designed primarily as a therapeutic toy, Paro has soft fur and is perfect for younger children and those in restricted environments such as hospitals and retirement homes.

Humanoid Robot

In 2005, Science Alive! purchased one of the worlds first humanoid robotics kits. Nicknamed "Arnie", he can perform remarkable acts of balance and strength including: cartwheels, forward rolls, walking & push-ups. He is also fully programmable and has been recently programmed to do the Haka!
