The Climbing Wall
Conquering the world of science
What an outrageous claim - where on earth could anyone conquer the world of Science?
Right here in Christchurch some people are giving it a good shot! Thanks to PT Goosey Ltd Master Painters, everyone who comes to Science Alive! can now attempt to conquer the world of science.
After many years, the 7x7 metre climbing-wall that challenges visitors to the science museum has finally had a facelift. 17-year-old Millie O'Grady came up with the design over several days, with the theme of 'how we see the world of science around us in everyday life.' "Everything is to do with science," says Millie. Millie's entry was unanimously selected as the winner of the $500 cash prize because it encompasses so many aspects of science.
Chris Reid, the artist (and Science Alive! employee) who painted this
monstrous artwork agrees, "Millie's design works wonderfully as a mural,
using thought bubbles to define everyday aspects of science".
Painting of the mural took four weeks from start to finish, and can be
enjoyed these school holidays at Science Alive! on Moorhouse Avenue.
