Education: Year 5 - 8 Programmes

1

Take on the challenge of designing and constructing bridges to meet a specific purpose. Working in pairs using K’NEX.

Areas Covered: types of bridges, basic engineering, forces, co-operative planning, designing, constructing, and modifying.

1

Explore the universe in our hands on astronomy programme. Areas covered include the moon phases, the planets of the solar system and lots more.

Areas Covered: moon phases, star and planet characteristics, our unique earth, space technology.

Introduce your students to electrical components. Design and build electrical circuits using ElectroFlash kits.

Areas Covered: circuit requirements and controlling electricity, conductors and insulators, and components including transistors and resistors.

1

Using Lego; students will investigate simple mechanisms to create machines to solve a design problem.

Areas Covered: machines make work easier, pulleys, levers, wheels, gears, co-operative designing, constructing, testing and modifying.

To replace Fantastic Forces we are working on a new physics based programme.

Areas to be covered:Newton’s three laws of motion, gravity, friction, air pressure, momentum, balance, and transfer of force.

1

Kick start your students laboratory skills with our favourite colourful chemistry experiments. Students carry out flame test, build sugar rainbows and explore acid/base reactions.

Areas Covered: laboratory skills including safety awareness, colourful flames, acids and bases and chromatography.

Introduce your students to electricity. Design and build electrical circuits and a take home night light.
$8.00 per student

Areas Covered: circuit requirements, electronic symbols, series and parallel circuits.

Investigate the theft of a new recipe from Eaglebrook confectionary company.
Students, working in groups, carry out a range of investigations to identify the thief.

Areas Covered: finger printing, analysing, testing, measuring, observing, recording, chromatography, chemical reactions, and co-operative problem solving.

Technology is rapidly moving forward, give your students a head start with Science Alive! Robotics.
