Gifted & Talented Education

Science Alive runs hands-on Science and Technology programmes for Years 5-6 and Years 7-8 gifted and talented students. These lessons are aimed at extending students creativity, problem solving, cooperative and ICT skills.

2010 Gifted & Talented Classes - Term 1

Week 2:
Tues 9 February

Lego Spirograph
Use Lego gears and motors to create geometric Spirograph patterns.
Week 3:
Tues 16 February

Week 4:

Rock the Cosmos
Explore the rock planets, moons, and dwarf planets in our solar system using Celestia.
Week 5:
Tues 2 March

Week 6:

Sweet Energy
Investigate various types of natural sugar and their importance in our diet.
Week 7:
Tues 16 March

Week 8:
Tues 23 March

Triple Sensing
Use a combination of light, sound and sonar sensors with NXT robots to complete a series of challenges.

Please note:

  • All session cost $5.50 per student
  • Classes run for 90 minutes and start at 1pm
  • Bookings are essential and spaces are limited so be in quick!
  • Schools are welcome to book their own separate classes to do any of the above topics at a different time.

Previous Gifted & Talented programs

Creepy Creatures
Learn about the powerful tools in Photoshop and improve your image editing skills! Students will be challenged to morph different animals together to make new and exciting creatures.

Moving to Mars
Using our K’NEX equipment, students will design and build a futuristic city on Mars, complete with landing pads for spacecraft, towers, sky-walkways and docking stations.

RoboBall
Students are challenged to compete in a new robotics ball game. Robots will be programmed to search for an infared ball using a light sensor and try to score more points than their rivals.

Digital DJ
Attention all musically interested students; find out what technology is available for the budding composer.

Gear It Up
Learn about gears and motors by building Lego hill climbing buggies that can travel up (or down) steep slopes.
