Science Alive! Early Childhood Programmes

In 2010 Science Alive is offering five stimulating programmes based on Te Whariki. These fun, interactive classes are suitable children ages 3 to 5 year old and have plenty to occupy young minds and hands.

Make your morning or afternoon a real adventure by adding on a visit to our Interactive Area and have fun exploring the hands-on exhibits.

Early Childhood Education Programmes 2009:

Animals Around Us

1 February - 31 March

Explore fascinating creatures using models, microscopes and props. Find out what animals need to survive, how they grow and what makes them special.

Out of this World

19 April - 18 June

Journey through the solar system and encounter planets, the moon and stars. Dress as an astronaut, make craters, walk the moonscape and create constellations.

What's the Forecast?

19 July - 17 August

Learn to observe and measure the weather like a meteorologist. Investigate extreme conditions, create precipitation, wind vanes and rainbows.

Inside Me

Discover the wonders found inside the human body. Observe x-rays, listen to your heart, investigate organs and stimulate your senses.

Machine Madness

1 Novemeber - 17 December

Learn how basic household tools work. Build and operate simple machines that use levers, pulleys, gears and wheels.

Details:

  • All programmes are designed for children ages 3 to 5 years old and run for approximately one hour.
  • Classes are geared to groups of 12 to 30 students.
  • A minimum of 4 adults are required to assist with the programme.
  • Children need to arrive with name tags and to be divided into 4 groups.
  • Included in your programme is a visit to Kidz Zone.
  • The main Interactive Area is available to groups for an additional charge of $2 per person.

Our programmes run: Monday to Friday at 9:30am and 1:00pm

Cost per Child:
$4 - class + Kidz Zone
$6 - class + Kidz Zone + 2hr visit to the Interactive Area
* 1 free adult for every 3 children
(Additional adults pay child rates)

Facilities:
Space is available for morning/afternoon tea. There are also toilet and changing facilities.
